How to Add Other Applications to Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams act as a workspace where you can get all your tasks organized in one place. Viewing all your projects and work under the same shelter means adding and linking other applications.

Not only Microsoft applications like Excel, Forms, etc, but you can also link third-party applications like Trello, to the Microsoft Teams. These applications can be viewed under three sections: Sidebar, as a Tab, and below the chat window.

  • Sidebar: For a more personalized view of data, you can access these applications on the sidebar of the window. The data will be visible only to you.
  • As a Tab: if you add the applications as tabs, the data will be visible to all the participants.
  • Below the chat window: Accessing the applications present below the chat window gives you more functions to work with like sharing data.

Adding an App to the Sidebar

As mentioned above, the applications that you add to the sidebar will present the information specifically to you. You may add more than one app to the sidebar by clicking on the three-dotted icon, which will then show the apps that can be added in the pop-up window. You can choose the application to add from this window.

Once you add the application to the sidebar, you can view all the projects and plans related to the same by clicking on it. Right-click on the application and select the ‘Pin’ option to keep it visible on the sidebar. You can also choose to ‘Unpin’ if you don’t wish to keep it visible at all times.

Adding an App as a Tab

An app added as a Tab is visible to all the participants on your team. The default apps that are available as a tab are ‘Posts,’ ‘Files,’ and ‘Wiki.’ You can add more apps to the tab by clicking on the ‘+’ icon beside the existing default tabs. A new window will appear with all the applications that can be added as a tab. Locate the app you want to add, or you can search the same from the ‘Search’ box on the top of the window. You can also add the third-party applications for which you already have a registered account. Select the application that you want as an additional tab, and click on the ‘Add’ button on the bottom of the window.

The third-party applications ask you to log in with the registered account, and this step is to be performed only the first time. In case Microsoft Teams doesn’t allow you to add a particular application, you can still access the same using the ‘Website’ app.

The steps to use the ‘Website’ app are:

  1. Click on the ‘Website’ option from the window.
  2. Enter the name of the tab you want to reach or paste the URL.
  3. Hit the ‘Save’ button.

This is pretty much it!

Adding an App below the Chat Window

Apps that are added below the chat window are also available for all the team participants and provide extra functions to use. The apps that are added under the chat window by default are Emoji, Sticker, GIF, etc.

The steps to add more applications below the chat window are:

  1. Click on the three-dotted icon below the chat window.
  2. A dialog box will open that consists of the apps that can be added.
  3. Adding third-party applications can be added only if you have a registered account with the same.
  4. Select the app you want to add below the chat window and click on the ‘Add’ button.
  5. The app will be added under the chat window. You can follow the same steps to add more apps.

How to uninstall an application?

You need to follow different methods to uninstall the app depending upon the section it is added.

  • To uninstall an app on the sidebar, right-click on the app and click on the ‘Uninstall’ option.
  • To uninstall an app as a tab, follow the steps mentioned below:
  • Click on the three-dotted icon beside the team’s name. A pop-up menu will appear. Select ‘Manage Team.’
  • Now, click on the ‘Apps’ tab. The list of applications added as a tab will appear.
  • Click on the ‘Trash’ icon in front of the application’s name that you want to uninstall.
  • To uninstall an app below the chat window, right-click on the app and click on the ‘Uninstall’ button.
