Google Camera 8.1 Adds ‘Storage Saver’ Mode to Help You Save Space on Your Phone

Recently Google Camera 8.1 was rolled out for the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5, which now has an added ‘Storage Saver’ mode. This new feature can be found under the recently introduced ‘Storage’ section. The ‘Storage Saver’ mode was set to be originally released with the Google Camera 8.0 but was then announced to be released later on. The ‘Storage Saver’ mode was set to be debuted as ‘Low Storage Mode’ in Google Camera 8.0, but the idea was then rejected; however, it can finally be seen in version 8.1, but with a different name.

According to Artem Russakovskii of Android Police and Mishaal Rahman of XDA, this new feature can be seen in the Pixel 4XL and Pixel 5, both with Google Camera 8.1. However, there are a lot of social media users who have claimed it to be present on the Pixel 2XL too. Still, we cannot clarify if the feature is present on Pixel 2XL or not.

XDA’s Mishaal Rahman on his Twitter handle @MishaalRahman has stated that recently two Pixel 5 owners claimed that the ‘storage’ section and a ‘low storage mode’ were not present on their devices. He said that it is clearly mentioned on the Google support page that both the options will be there on the Google Camera app of the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5.

The Storage Saver mode of Google minimizes the file size of images and videos to let the individuals store more media on their devices. No doubt, minimizing the size of the files will lead to reduced quality images and videos. This thing is clearly mentioned on the Google support pages, and also, the company has warned individuals about that.

Google claims that currently, the ‘Storage Saver’ mode will only be available for the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5; however, Russakovskii’s post didn’t relate to this fact.

It seems like this feature is now available on the complete Pixel lineup, and now let us see if the company’s website gets updated or the support gets withdrawn from the previously launched devices. If you are a Pixel owner, you need to download the Google Camera 8.1 to check the new features for your device.

So, this was all about “Storage Saver” – the recently launched feature for Google Camera 8.1.

Basics of Google Photos App

If you are the one whose gallery is always overloaded with photos and videos, then the Google Photos app is for you. Uploading your pictures on the Google Photos app will not only help you free up space from your phone but also organize those beautiful photos. This is an AI-centric platform, which is super easy to use and free of cost. The app is available on Android, iOS, plus for web access.

Download The App

You can easily and quickly install the Google Photos App app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Once that is done, use your Google account to log in. After which a prompt will ask you to set the upload quality for the images. The “High Quality” is the most preferred option, as it uploads your images at 16 MP and videos at 1080p without compromising your Google storage. After this, you can start uploading the photos or/and videos. This might take a while, depending on the number of media you are uploading.

Upload Your Memories

You must not forget to backup your photos and videos on this app. It’s a straightforward process for both Android and iOS. On Android, open the app, tap on the triple-dot menu, and choose Settings followed by “Backup & Sync.” Turn on the toggle switch for “Backup & Sync” to ensure all the new photos and videos are backed up automatically every time you open the Google Photos app.

Similarly, for iOS, start by opening the app, then tap on the hamburger menu, followed by Settings. Now turn on the slider for “Backup & Sync.” Your photos and video will now be backed up automatically.

View Your Content

Once you have uploaded everything onto Google Photos, you can easily view your gallery. All you need to do is open the app, and you will find your newest photos on top. Also, you can view your photos on a larger screen by navigating to https://photos.google.com on your desktop.

Organization

The best thing about Google Photos app is that it organizes your photos so that no one and nothing else can. If you tap on the “albums” icon towards the left of the app screen, a new screen will come up. It will have all your uploads organized by Things, Animations, Collages, Videos, Places, and People. It’s the perfect example of how great Google’s AI technology is, automatically classifying photos into different categories. If you want to find all the photos of a particular person, the process is quite fun. To do so, you can use Google’s facial-recognition technology, as it sorts the photos of friends and family by recognizing their faces. Things get more interesting when Google’s image-search technology recognizes the subject in each photo.

You can also find the images of bills and receipts by just typing “document” in the search bar. Google will bring up all the uploaded images that look like a document, sheet, file, table, and other relevant objects.

Assistant

The Assistant icon in Google Photos looks like a star in the box. It will help you create animations, albums, prints, collages, or movies using the uploaded photos in your app. You will find Google’s AI technology creating such stuff on its own. And if you want to create your own, choose and tap on what you want to create out of your photos from animations, albums, prints, collages, or movies, and follow the prompts. The sky’s the limit for the number of collages or albums you want to make.

Print Store

Google Photos has a print store menu, which offers photo books starting from $9.99 and prints at the charge of $0.25.

The Google Photos app provides not only various useful options but also easy functionality, making it the top photo storage site. Everything from syncing to hunting old photos is made easier than ever. Go try out the fun features in this amazing app, if you haven’t already.

Google TV Returns a Decade After its First Incarnation

Google TV is back, and this time, it has claimed to offer access to an all-new entertainment experience, alongside the smarter recommendations. It will be initially available in the United States on the new Chromecast dongle. However, it will be available in the other markets, including the United Kingdom, later on. The all-new Google TV comes with a remote control that is voice capable.

Sony and other Android TV manufacturers would be supporting Google TV from 2021.

You will get recommendations over live TV and other online services on Google TV. Initially, live TV is only available with a YouTube TV subscription in the US. However, many providers are on their way to offer it. Live television integrates results from a wide range of services, including Netflix, YouTube, HBO Max, Disney+, and will soon integrate results from Peacock.

Live TV on Google would also offer information about weather, sports results, and a lot more. You can also control it through voice commands.

The first implementation of Google TV will be on the new Chromecast dongle device. This Chromecast device would be plugged into the HDMI port present on the televisions. It will come with a remote to access the features. The new Google TV on Chromecast dongle supports 4K videos in ultra-high-definition with over 60fps of dynamic range. Initially, Chromecast with Google TV will only be available in the US, at a price of $49.99. It will soon be available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Australia, Spain, and Canada.

From the year 2021, Google TV will be available on the televisions from Sony and various other Android TV partners. Meanwhile, this new Google TV app is all set to get released as an update for the Android handsets in the US. Google TV will bring together films, series, live TV and more.

Google TV’s first version that launched a decade ago, in October 2010, at that time promised to combine the television and internet. However, it delivered the best of neither of the two. But since then, a lot has changed. It has now got a voice control, which means we can drop the clumsy keyboard. It now has various online video services that facilitate its integration with various service providers. It seems like Google has learned from all of its previous mistakes related to Google TV and Chromecast.

Google Pixel 5: Everything You Need to Know About

The much-awaited Google Pixel 5 is finally out. The Pixel 5 was recently launched on September 30, 2020, at Google’s Launch Night In event. It is one of Google’s top-end phones, and it’s the perfect option if you are looking for an affordable 5G phone offering great camera experience, having smaller-than-typical size with quality software and guaranteed updates.  If you are thinking whether or not you should buy Google Pixel 5, then you have landed on just the right page. Here we will be discussing everything we know about the phone so that you can make an informed decision.

To start with, the Pixel 5 costs $699 in the US and is available in only one size, two colors, and one storage configuration. Its design and features are such that the Pixel 5 stands right next to LG Velvet,  the Samsung Galaxy A71, the Galaxy S20 FE, the OnePlus 8, OnePlus Nord (outside the US), and some other upper mid-range to flagship 5G phones.

What Should You Expect From the Pixel 5 Camera?

The Pixel 5 has a 12MP IMX363 main camera, complemented by a new 16MP ultra-wide shooter, ditching the telephoto camera that came with Pixel 4a. This new camera will allow you to capture wider scenes, such as cityscapes, landscapes, and groups of people without having to take a few steps back.

Talking about the phone’s zoom capabilities, it is expected that the Pixel 5 Zoom quality will be somewhat like Pixel 3. Super Resolution Zoom without a telephoto lens should capture distinct images at least till 2x or 3x zoom shots. Also, Google is bringing a serious upgrade in terms of exposure bracketing on Pixel 5 that should pull out more clear photos. Google’s fantastic Night Sight and Portrait Light is also coming to portrait mode. This will allow you to add effect to your portrait photos, which turn out to be with dark subjects. Google has also tweaked video quality in Pixel 5. This fantastic phone is coming with three new stabilization modes: locked, active, and cinematic pan.

How Is the Pixel 5 Battery Life?

The Pixel 5 battery is over 1,000mAh bigger than the Pixel 4’s 2,800mAh pack, however, its 5G connectivity might result in higher battery consumption. Also, Pixel 5 is going to have an extreme battery saver mode that will allow you to pause everything except the apps you like to use. According to Google, this feature will get you up to 48 hours of additional battery life.

Is the Pixel 5 Fast Enough?

The Pixel 5’s  Snapdragon 765G processor makes it weaker than the Pixel 4. Not to mention the huge gap between the Pixel 4’s and Pixel 5’s graphical performance. Anyways, the gap between the CPU performance delivered by the Snapdragon 765G and the Snapdragon 855 is pretty small, making it ideal for single-cores performance. Long story short, Pixel 5’s chipset can deliver great performance in most of the general games. However, you shouldn’t consider Pixel 5 if you play advanced games.

Should You Buy Google Pixel 5?

For the buyers in the US where brands like Realme and Xiaomi are not available, Google Pixel 5 priced at $699 looks like a good phone. Talking in general, if you are looking for an affordable 5G phone with flagship-style features, then Pixel 5 is currently your best bet. Those looking for the most reliable phone should keep in mind that Google’s Pixel series have suffered from hardware issues in the past. Coming to the specifications sheet, Pixel 5 looks far better than Pixel 4’s small battery and lack of a triple rear camera compared to the rival phones.

This was all we have so far on Google Pixel 5. Hope this helps you in deciding whether you want to buy the phone or not.

Google Lens: Features You Need to Try

As the name suggests, Google Lens is an image recognition tool developed by Google. With this, you can use your phone’s camera to identify objects in the real world. Although Google Lens has been a part of your phones since way back, however, with its latest version and additional features, it has become more useful. Recently, Google Lens has added quite a few clever features. So, here is a list of some of the best Google Lens features and how to use them on your Android device.

How to Access Google Lens on an Android Device?

Most of the latest Android phones have Lens installed into the camera app. All you have to do is take a picture, open it in the gallery app, and find the Lens icon located in the upper or lower side of the screen. Also, you can access the service via Google Assistant or in Google Photos.

New Places Filter

You will find the New Places filter in the Lens app located between the Shopping and Dining options. Use the Places filter while clicking the picture of some building like, or any other place for that matter, and the Lens will bring up the name of that place, including other options like Search, Save Place, Share, Call and locate in Google Maps. Also, remember that this filter is accessible via the app and Google Assistant and not through the camera or Photo app.

Word Translation and Text Pronunciation

Although Google Lens was already capable of translating text, however, the new version is also capable of pronouncing the text.  This feature will be helpful for people who are learning new languages. Also, the children who are just learning to read can take advantage. To use this filter, find the Text filter in the lens app. It is the second option from the beginning and looks like a square with three horizontal lines in it. Now, position your camera in front of the text you wish to translate or find the meaning of.

After capturing the image of the text, you can select a specific word by simply tapping on it and then tap on listen to check the pronunciation or find the meaning by tapping on the magnifying glass icon.

Homework Helper

As the world is becoming more tech-savvy and more children now using the internet for studies, Google Lens can now help them solve math problems. Capture the math problem using the Homework filter, and the Lens will quickly suggest the answer. You can tap on the “Solve” option to understand the steps needed to solve the problem. Know that the Lens pulls alternate solutions and similar problems from the Web to make sure students understand the reasoning. Note that the option may not be available for all the equations you search for.

Transform Handwritten Notes into Text

Google Lens can now convert your handwritten notes into text on your computer. But first, you will need to download the latest Chrome version on your PC and log in to Chrome with the Google account you have on your phone. Now, you can capture the handwritten notes using your mobile device, and then press “Select All” followed by “Copy to the computer.” In the list that appears, locate and select your PC on which you wish to see your notes. Now, move to your desktop and open Google Docs in the Chrome browser. Open a new document and press Insert or Ctrl + V to paste the handwritten notes in the form of text.

Access Restaurant Reviews and Ratings

Most of the time, we are unsure whether a restaurant is worth dinning or not. In such cases, customer reviews and ratings should be referred to. So, open the Google Lens, point your phone at the restaurant’s logo, and it will pull out Google reviews to help you decide.

Track Packages

Point the Google Lens in front of a package’s shipping details and wait for the details to highlight, then tap on the dot that appears on the screen. The URL for the USPS tracking page will come up, you can tap on it to follow the shipping progress of your package.

Find Details About Random Objects

Capture the object you wish to learn about using the Google Lens. It will investigate the data, identify the object, and bring up a ton of resources online to learn more. The object can be anything from a painting to a plant, an animal, or a famous person.

It seems that Google has done an amazing job by adding these many useful features to Google Lens. We hope that you can now make the most of the internet using Google Lens.

Google Ends its Support for the Daydream VR Project in Android 11

Recently, with the arrival of the all-new Android 11 update for the users, Google has officially stopped the support for the Daydream VR glasses.

The US-based search engine giant Google has reportedly dropped its support for the Daydream VR platform for Android 11.

However, you can still use the Daydream headset and controller as a generic VR viewer, but the Daydream VR application is now no longer supported by Google. And since it is no longer a Google supportive app, the users might face issues while running it on Android 11 or later. However, it is said that the users might access many of the experiences and third-party apps of the Daydream from the Google Play Store as standalone apps.

Google recently announced that it might have a negative impact on the users of the glasses with any new devices. However, the users will be able to use the apps available specifically for them on the Google Play Store, but without any kind of support from Google.

Google Daydream Glasses

The Google Daydream glasses are glasses related to virtual reality that are suitable for smartphones. They offer a pleasant feeling of joy held in hands. They are straightforward to use for anyone who wants to try them. We say this because all you have to do is to install the application on your handset to enter into the world of virtual reality. And with the use of the built-in console, the navigation becomes pretty easy.

Even though the general glasses don’t offer the same features as the glasses that are associated with the computers, Google Daydream View, however, offers an amazing experience and a various number of advantages. It works with most of the high-end as well as average performance Android handsets.

Google Daydream Glasses come at a very user-friendly price and are efficient for displaying a vast range of content. Even though they meet almost everyone’s expectations, these glasses are still not the best virtual reality glasses in the market, as stated by the experts. However, they undoubtedly act as an easy medium with the help of which the Android handset users can access virtual reality content at a very reasonable cost.

Final Verdict

These were some details regarding the news about Google’s decision to stop supporting the Daydream VR for Android 11. Earlier this year, Google stopped the availability of Daydream for Samsung devices coming up with Android 10 alongside Pixel 4.

Google Assistant Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It

Google Assistant helps in solving a lot of our problems by providing quick search results without us having to type in and search for it. But what if the Assistant itself experiences some issues? Well, there could be many possible reasons and thus many possible solutions. So this article will be telling you about some of the possible fixes, in case your Google Assistant is not working.

Reboot Your Phone

Rebooting your phone is known for getting rid of a lot of tech-related problems. And hence, it is worth giving a try. Not to mention how easy it is to perform a reboot. You probably know how to reboot to your phone, but just in case you don’t, here is how:

Step 1: First of all, press and hold the power button on your device for about two seconds.

Step 2: You will see a few options displayed on your screen. All you have to do is select the Restart/Reboot option, and leave the rest on the phone.

Step 3: Once your mobile device turns back on, launch the Google Assistant to check if the problem still exists. If it does, try the next method.

Ensure That the Assistant Is Enabled and Your Device Supports It

It is not always necessary that your device will support the Google Assistant. So to check if does, make sure that your device has:

  • Android 5.0 or above, supported by at least 1GB of memory
  • Minimum screen resolution of 720p
  • Google app 6.13 or higher
  • Google Play services

Also, the device needs to be set to one of the following languages: Chinese (Traditional), English, French, German, Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Vietnamese, Thai, or Turkish.

If everything on your device is set to how it has been described above, but the Google Assistant is still not working on your phone, then check if the service is enabled on your device. Here is how to check:

Step 1: Open the Google app on your phone and select the “More” option at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Then tap on the option named “Settings” followed by “Google Assistant.”

Step 3: Now, tap on the “Assistant” tab at the top.

Step 4: Scroll down to locate and select your device.

Step 5: On the screen that appears, toggle the switches labeled “Google Assistant” and “Hey Google” to on position. By doing this, you just enabled Google Assistant on your phone.

Step 6: Now, you can check if the Google Assistant is working by saying “OK Google, or “Hey Google.” If you still don’t get anything on the screen, move on to the next method.

Retrain the Voice Model

Another possible reason as to why Google Assistant is not working could be because it doesn’t recognize your voice. If this is the case, then you can easily retrain the voice model. Here is how:

Step 1:  On your phone, open the Google app, select “More” followed by “Settings.”

Step 2: Now, select the “Voice” option and tap on “Voice Match” followed by the “Retrain voice model.”

Step 3: Then tap the option named “I agree” and follow the prompts. Afterward, you will be asked to say something to the voice assistant. You can simply say “OK Google” and “Hey Google” a few times.

Step 4: Once done, repeat the hotword to Google Assistant to check if the problem has been solved. If it still doesn’t work, there are a few other things you can try.

Other Possible Solutions

Check the microphone: If the assistant is unable to hear you, it won’t work. Check if your microphone is working, or you aren’t covering it up with your hand while speaking.

Check your internet connection: This is the foremost requirement for Assistant to work. So check if you are online, or the Wi-Fi or mobile network that you are using is stable.

Disable other voice assistants: If you have some other voice assistants installed on your phone, then they might be causing the problem. So, if you have a Samsung device, try disabling Bixby on it. And if you have downloaded Alexa, Cortana, or any other voice assistant on your phone, try disabling or deleting it to check if the Google Assistant works after that.

Upgrade the app: Ensure that the Google app is updated to the latest version, and you have given all permissions for the app to work. To do so, navigate to Settings > Apps > Google app > Permissions.

If none of the above methods helped you fix the problem that you were experiencing with Google Assistant, then it is likely that Google has recently released a software update. So keep looking for a new update for the Google app.

Google Assistant wants to improve working from home during the pandemic

Google has announced a new Google Assistant feature that can help people who are working from home during the novel coronavirus pandemic. However, it might be not possible for Google to recreate the usual office routine such as coffee breaks, catching up with colleagues, and more such regular activities, but it has developed new Google Assistant features that can help you while you are working from home.

Google is going to roll out a new work routine for Google Assistant. It will help the users in reminding them of all the things happening at work. It will be available on both Android and iPhone, and the users can enable it in the settings. The new Google Assistant will include a lot of features, for example, if you are working from Monday to Friday, it will remind you throughout your working days like, at 10:00 AM, you will get a message on your smart speaker or display on your phone screen saying “ It’s time to grab a cup of coffee.” The Google Assistant will also regularly remind and share the time with you to maintain the daily routine tasks on time.

Here we will discuss how the Google Assistant will help in maintaining the daily routines while working from home.

The new Google Assistant will help the users in following a new routine that will focus on their workday schedules. It will remind them of everything that should indeed happen during the day. One of the best parts of this feature is that it is customizable, and therefore, the users can set their breaks and schedules. In this way, the users can feel a similar working environment as in their office where all the regular breaks happen naturally.

The new Google Assistant will also include a Gentle Sleep and Wake feature that will allow the users to coordinate their smart lights with sleeping schedules and morning alarms. This will help the users in improving their gentle sleeping habits. You just need to set a reminder for your particular sleep-time, and the lights will be turned off by Google Assistant. The command is “Hey Google, sleep my lights at 10:00 PM.” The Google Assistant will not only help in turning off the lights at night but will also help the users by turning them on in the morning at your desired time. The command is “Hey Google, wake my lights at 8:00 AM.” All the users who already have Google Assistant alarms can say “Turn on Gentle Wake Up” to brighten the smart lights 30 minutes before your alarm goes off.

While you are working from home, Google Assistant will allow you to add new entries to your calendar, start to-do lists, and set reminders. All of these tasks can be performed via voice. The new Google Assistant can also help you in remembering important dates and events such as anniversary, meeting, or it can be your Wi-Fi password. The Assistant also allows the user to turn on Do Not Disturb mode via a simple command: “Hey Google, silence my phone.” However, there are various options available in the new Google Assistant to customize your actions, setting your schedules, but the routine will be available only in English.

After exploring and discussing the fantastic features of the new Google Assistant feature, we have concluded that this feature is one of the best features of the Google Assistant and will surely help a lot in several ways while working from home. It will not only make the task easier for the user but will also create an office-type working environment at home.
