Best Methods to Fix Joy-Con Drift on Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch is one of the most popular video gaming consoles that offer three play styles on a 6.2-inch multi-touch capacitive touch screen. It has a capacity to connect up to 8 consoles at a time for a local wireless multiplayer. The package comes along with his Joy-Con controllers that give you flexible gameplay. Players can connect it with television to play HD games. Despite all the benefits, some users reported complaints about gaming consoles. Its kickstand and short battery life push the product far away from being perfect.

Ever since the global pandemic, people have had a lot of leisure time, which increased their gameplay timing on gaming consoles. The major problem occurred in the Joy-Con controller, and it started to drift and dawdle. It was difficult for the players to use the Joy-Con controller. When convenience throws up to the point where Nintendo’s president had to apologize for the “inconvenience that Joy-Con issues have caused.” Fortunately, there are a few ways through which you can improve the tools’ performance without spending any penny on it.

Update the Joy-Con

Before trying any other method, you should always ensure that your controller runs on the latest update. To download the latest update, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Menu bar and go to System Settings.
  2. Tap on Controllers and Sensors, and move to Update Controllers.

If your controller is running on the latest updates, then you will get a message for that. And if not, then wait for the controller to get updates with the newest firmware. Then you will get a popup message of ‘Update Complete.’ Check if your controller continues to drift.

Clean the joystick

You should always make sure that the controller is clean and does not accumulate all the dust and dirt. The Joy-Con has a sensor at the bottom of the control stick. If you clean that sensor, the problem might resolve. For cleaning it, using a cotton swab or Q-tip dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol. Gently dab the Q-tip on the bottom part of the controller. Gently rotate the joystick for a few seconds to insert the alcohol on every corner of the sensor. Do not try to apply the alcohol directly onto the joystick, or else, you will lose the controller’s significant mechanisms.

Calibrate

Calibration is a method that will help you to measure the accuracy of your controller. To continue, remove the Joy-Con controller from Nintendo Switch and then follow these steps:

  1. Go back to System Settings and click on Controllers and Sensors.
  2. Select Calibrate Control Stick on the new window.
  3. Follow the instructions appearing on the screen for calibrating the stick or controller.

If your joystick performs well, you will find a green cross at the center. If not, you will see a circle, or the cross won’t be visible at the center. To calculate it, click on the ‘X’ button. Click on Calibrate from the warning appearing on the screen. You will receive all the instructions on the screen for calibration procedures, and once the process is complete, click on OK.

Repair Program

If none of the above methods help you remove the bug, try using the Joy-Con repair program provided directly by the company for the device’s hardware.\

These methods should be sufficient to get your controller back to life. Yet, if neither of these hacks work, then it’s time for you to purchase a new Joy-Con controller.
