How to Fix AirPods Keep Disconnecting Issue

Many times, the AirPods we connect and use with iOS devices keep disconnecting. There is not a definite reason why the AirPods keep disconnecting, but there are multiple ways to fix the issue. Let’s explore the solutions in detail.

  1. Check the battery status of the AirPods

The first thing to look for when your AirPods keep disconnecting again and again is to check its battery status. Make sure that your AirPods are charged before looking for any other issue. To check the battery of your AirPods, place the AirPods in its case with the lid open. Placing the case near your iPhone will appear with a menu that’ll show you the battery level of your device.

You can also check the battery of your AirPods by adding the Battery widget on your iPhone.

  1. Check if the device is connected via Bluetooth

If the battery of your AirPods is charged, check the Bluetooth connectivity. You can check the same in the ‘Settings’ app. If the Bluetooth is turned on, try disabling and then enabling the same.

  1. Check the audio settings of the iPhone

Check if the device connected is the right one on your iPhone. Click on the description of the track playing on the lock screen, and a pop-up menu will appear. The audio device connected to your iPhone will appear.

  1. Disconnect and then re-connect your AirPods

Turning off your AirPods for a few seconds, and turning back on can solve a lot of basic issues. Shut the lid of the case after you put the Airpods back that will disconnect them from your iPhone. Open the lid of the case after a few seconds, and press and hold the button on the case to re-connect. To re-connect them, place the case near your iPhone and a pop-up menu will appear. Click on the ‘Connect’ button to confirm.

  1. Disable the Automatic Ear Detection feature

This feature creates issues when your AirPods are connected to your iPhone, but cannot detect the AirPods in your ear. It is advised to turn this feature off when the device is connected to your iPhone, but you don’t have the earpiece on. The steps to disable this feature are:

  • Go to the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone.
  • Click on the ‘Bluetooth’ tab from the list.
  • Click on the ‘i’ icon next to your AirPods name.
  • Turn the slider off for ‘Automatic Ear Detection.’
  1. Keep your AirPods clean

The dust that builds up on the earpiece can cause audio or connectivity issues. It is advised to keep your AirPods clean from inside and outside to avoid issues.

  1. Unpair all other Apple devices on your iPhone

You can try disconnecting all the Apple devices that appear in the ‘Bluetooth Device’ list. To unpair a device, all you need to do is click on the ‘i’ icon next to the name of the device, and click on the ‘Forget this device’ option.

Do the same for all other devices except your AirPods.

  1. Check for the clash between devices

Sometimes, the frequencies used by entirely different devices can create a clash that can cause interference. These devices can be Microwave, cordless phones, etc. You can figure out this issue if the AirPods disconnect only when they’re not placed near your iPhone.
