What Is BitLocker PIN in Windows 10 and 3 Easy Ways to Change It?

Recently, the length of the BitLocker PIN was increased to the 6 characters, and the TPM 2.0 lockout period becomes more than the default after changing the PIN.

Steps to change BitLocker PIN, if you have Windows 10

Several ways are there to change the BitLocker PIN, and most popular methods are as follows:

  • Control Panel
  • PowerShell
  • Command Prompt

Let’s see each option:

Using PowerShell To Change BitLocker PIN

Follow these steps to change the PIN

  • Tap on the Windows key and X together that will open the power menu in front of you
  • Now tap on A that will open the Admin role of the system
  • Now you need to enter the command into that window and then tap on the Enter button.

manage-bde -changepin C:

If your system’s drive name is not C drive, then you may need to replace the “C” with the letter, which was assigned to that drive of windows at the time of the installation.

  • Now, type your new PIN and then press the Enter option
  • Now reconfirm the new PIN and again tap on the Enter button.

The process of changing the PIN from PowerShell has been successful. Now you can restart your computer and check them.

Using Command Prompt to Change BitLocker PIN

Follow these steps to change the PIN via Command Prompt:

  • Tap on the Windows key and R together that will open the run dialog.
  • Now you have to type cmd into the dialog box and press the combination of the CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER that will open the command prompt mode in admin Mode.
  • Now you need to enter the command into the CMD window and then tap on the Enter button.

Manage-bde -changepin C:

If your system’s drive name is not C drive, then you may need to replace the “C” with the letter, which was assigned to the drive of windows at the time of the installation.

  • Now enter the new PIN and press Enter button
  • Confirm your PIN and again press the Enter button

Now your PIN has been changed successfully through Command Prompt. Restart your computer and check your new PIN.

Using Control Panel to Change BitLocker PIN

One should follow these steps to change your BitLocker PIN though the Control panel:

  • Select the Windows button with R to run the Dialog.
  • Type Control in the Dialog box and press enter to open the control panel.
  • Now enlarge the icons of the panel
  • There you will find a BitLocker Drive Encryption, select that option
  • Now you will see “Change PIN” option, click on it

If you know your old PIN, then enter it and change your PIN. If you don’t know your Old PIN, then select the Forgotten PIN option. Now enter the new PIN and then confirm it. Press enter and then restart your system to check it.
