Enola Holmes: Movie Review

The Finder of Lost Souls”, is correct in the case of Enola, a remarkable character in the latest movie Enola Holmes. Played by Millie Bobby Brown, Enola brings a youthful feminine twist to the Sherlockian adventure movie. It won’t be wrong to say that the startling performance by Brown has made her teen and sensitive character the Woman of the century. Brown’s fans have been delighted with her Victorian lady-like attire, which is surely about to bring her more followers. It’s as if Brown stole the whole show in with her marvelous beauty and acting skills.

Enola Holmes, a film based on a book by Nancy Springer, directed by Harry Bradbeer and written by Jack Thorne, centers around the sister of an already famous detective Sherlock Holmes. One day, she wakes up to find her mother is missing, and following the footsteps of her brother, she leaves the town disguised as a boy to find her missing mother.

Enola meets her stuffy brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock seeking help to find her mother. After discovering that her brothers don’t have the best interests in her, she decides to flee with some clues and money left by her mother.  She struggles as the world begins to change for her, and all the knowns turn their backs. She also witnesses stereotypical behaviors of people, who expect her to be poised and dressed like a respectable lady. This type of gender bias still exists in various parts of the world, where the females are expected to be someone who they don’t want to be at all. Apart from this, the movie is enjoyable and worth watching.

Especially the cryptic twist in the story that keeps the audience hooked, where the prominent detective; Sherlock Holmes has been outsmarted by his clever and witty sister. Enola is surely the beauty with the brain, who is straight breaking the hype around the cliché detective Sherlock Holmes. Someone has to do it, so Enola did it.

Draped in her excellent ensembles, Brown keeps on trying to piece together the mystery of her missing mother Eudoria played by the chameleon. Eudoria is portrayed as a strong and bold matriarch of the Holmes family. She ensures that her daughter becomes an independent woman by teaching her daughter everything from jujitsu; a martial art to chess and paintings to encourage her to read every book, and all that she could teach Enola.

Apart from finding her mother, Enola is seen helping a teen boy, Tewkesbury, half the way from the story. Even though this boy is a little weird and absurd, you will understand later that it was a part of the adventurous conundrum and proved to be a dramatic kind of humorous for the movie.

From Superman to Sherlock, it was rather unexpected for Henry Cavill to perform so well as a detective, giving another iconic role, but he did it! It won’t hurt to say that Sherlock played by Henry Cavill was uncharacteristically uncharacteristic. Although the movie could have enjoyed more of Cavill he just came and went like those charming characters who are better off missed. The amazing landscapes from England topped up with amazing cinematography made the screenplay inevitably stunning.

Initially, the movie focuses only on  Enola’s missing mother. Then suddenly moves towards everything about Enola and her relationship with the Viscount Tewkesbury, Marquess of Basilwether, played by Louis Partridge. Well, this is something without which no movie has been completed in history. Enola had to get attracted to this mysterious damsel-in-distress, Tewkesbury to give a romantic twist to the plot. But it is an undeniable fact that this relationship is fun to watch on screen, while they both try not to freak out in the world of two-faced.

With a little chaotic opening, the story is pretty straightforward. But it can feel overwhelming to latch on the story, given its fast-pace and quick sequences. Otherwise, the cast and crew of the film have delivered dazzling skills with their charismatic style, rhythmic dialogue, which comes as a breather to catch up with the fast-moving film.

The story is entertaining yet inspiring featuring Enola as a brave, free-spirited, talented, and strong girl; who is working her way out to become the woman just wonderfully shown in Enola Holmes!
